Walk along with Ranger Shaun to learn about Desert plants and how they “chill” in the
winter. Click program title for more details.
Join Ranger Shaun as he walks along the 2-mile Wild Burro Trail. The trail is beautiful this time of year as it passes through various micro-climates created by the various canyons and ridges of the landscape. A collection of different desert plants grow along the sides of the trail, taking advantage of the shifting availabilities of shade, sun, heat, humidity, and the ever important, water. Come along and have a closer look. This is a 2-mile, one-way hike from Wild Burro Day Use Area to Pipeline Canyon Day Use Area. Please be prepared to hike back or arrange transportation. Wild Burro is an Easy rated trail. Water and Restrooms will be available at both ends of the trail, but not along the way. Closed toed shoes, water bottles, and dressing in layers strongly encouraged. No pets please. This walk is intended to move at a slower than normal pace to discuss seasonal adaptations to desert climates. MEETING LOCATION: Wild Burrow Day Use Area Limit 15 participants. To register, please email Ranger Shaun at shaun.barnett@maricopa.gov with your name, phone number and number of people attending. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please email back ASAP so those on the waiting list may be contacted. Registration for this program will close on 12/8/2023.
