Join Ranger Eric for a guided walk around the 0.5-mile, barrier-free (navigable in wheelchair or stroller) Palm Lake Trail. The trail is unpaved, but is graded, compressed decomposed granite. Palm Lake is a spring-fed pond surrounded by historic plantings of palms, mulberry, and fig trees, and native cottonwood, willow, and mesquite forest. Lots of wildlife are often seen on this trail, including birds. Some binoculars are available to borrow. Please wear sturdy footwear and sun protection, and carry ample water for yourself. Restrooms and a water bottle refilling station are available by the parking lot.
National Take a Hike Day is celebrated each year on November 17 in recognition of the National Trails System Act of 1968. This Act designated a series of scenic, historic and recreation trails in both backcountry and urban areas in an effort to provide outdoor opportunities for the public. Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Department encourages you to connect with nature on a ranger-led hike, on this day or any day, to explore and learn about our beautiful Sonoran Desert. To ensure everyone can enjoy this nationally recognized day, the regular day-use entry fee for all of Maricopa County’s regional parks will be waived on November 17.
