Get your heart pumping with a morning Fitness Hike on National Take a Hike Day with
Ranger Derik as you explore the White Tank Mountains and enjoy views of the Sonoran Desert and Phoenix Valley.
**Hike rated Strenuous** Click program title for more details.
This hike is strenuous, steep and rated as difficult as you will hike 4 miles and gain 1000ft of elevation on rocky, uneven and loose trail. The hike will follow the Goat Camp trail up into the mountains and quickly gain elevation. You are encouraged to bring 3 liters of water, hiking boots, hiking pole, and a snack. Along the way we will talk about the animals and plants that call the desert home as well as some of the rich history that can be found in the area. At the midpoint of the hike, we will take a 15-minute break to enjoy the views and rest. Water can be found at the small trailhead parking lot, but bathrooms are located at the nature center or area 1. National Take a Hike Day is celebrated each year on November 17 in recognition of the National Trails System Act of 1968. This Act designated a series of scenic, historic and recreation trails in both backcountry and urban areas in an effort to provide outdoor opportunities for the public. Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Department encourages you to connect with nature on a ranger-led hike, on this day or any day, to explore and learn about our beautiful Sonoran Desert. To ensure everyone can enjoy this nationally recognized day, the regular day-use entry fee for all of Maricopa County’s regional parks will be waived on November 17. MEETING LOCATION: Goat Camp Trailhead Limit 20 participants. To register, please call the Nature Center at (602) 506-2930 ext. 5 with your name, phone number and number of people attending. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please call the Nature Center ASAP so we may contact those on the waiting list. Registration for this program will close on 11/15/24.
