Winter is a great time to do this hike, especially for those who worry about some of our spicier desert dwellers like rattlesnakes and scorpions. While chances are never zero for seeing these animals, most of them are content to stay in their dens when it’s January chilly. So put on those hiking shoes and let’s hit the approximately 3-mile out-and-back on the Yavapai Point Trail. This trail is rated moderate, so expect some loose rock, uneven terrain and elevation change (about 800 feet of it in total). From the top of Yavapai Point, we will be rewarded with perhaps the best view of the lake in the entire park. Please wear sturdy, closed-toed shoes and bring water, along with a flashlight. Restrooms are available near the trailhead. NO pets, please.
