Join Ranger Kevin for a morning fitness hike among the striking Malpais hills. Click program title for more details.
Join Ranger Kevin for a challenging, approximately 8-mile hike on the spectacularly scenic Rock Peak Wash, Malpais, and San Tan trails. We’ll keep an eye out for morning critters as we go. This is a great way to knock some serious miles off your 100 miles in 100 days goal while on a Ranger-led hike, but you’re welcome to join even if you’re not participating in that program. Bonus: maybe meet some others just as passionate about hiking as you are. Trail conditions are rated moderate to difficult, so expect a considerable amount of loose rock, sandy soil, and uneven terrain. This is not a hike for inexperienced or beginning hikers, but perfect for seasoned hikers. Please bring plenty of water (at least three liters recommended) and snacks, and wear sturdy, closed-toe footwear. Proper clothing (layers), sunscreen, and hat are strongly recommended. Trekking poles may be useful. It is also a good idea to leave some extra water in your vehicle for your return. Restrooms are not available at this trailhead, but are available at the main park entrance. Please, NO pets.
Please bring $7 exact CASH for the self-pay station or your annual pass. MEETING LOCATION: Rock Peak Wash Trailhead at the south end of the park (see map here: https://www.maricopacountyparks.net/assets/1/6/san-tan-8x11.pdf).
Limit 10 participants. To register, please call the Nature Center at (602) 506-2930 ext. 7 with your name, phone number and number of people attending. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please call the Nature Center ASAP so we may contact those on the waiting list. Registration for this program will close on 12/7/23.
