Join Ranger Derik on a 7-mile (~6 hour) hike up to an ancient Hohokam fort and take in the views of the surrounding mountains and the city.
The hike will consist of steep inclines on rocky and loose ground, and you will gain 1400ft of elevation over the course of the 7 miles. This hike is only recommended for people with a significant hiking experience as this is a difficult hike. Sturdy boots with good ankle support and trekking poles are highly encouraged to assist with uphill and downhill hiking as well as for stability on loose terrain. There are no water fountains at the park so please plan ahead (recommend at least 3-4 liters of water). As it will be winter, and we will be hiking to a higher elevation, so please dress in layers that can be changed as the temperatures fluctuate throughout the day; expect some wind. The hike will begin at the covered tables just past the contact station, porta-johns and water fountains are available.
Limit 20 participants. To register, please email Ranger Derik at derik.rodgers@maricopa.gov with your name and the number of participants in your party. If you are unable to attend the hike, please email back as soon as possible to those on the wait list can be added to the hike. Registration for this program will close on 03/09/2023.
