**This program has been cancelled due to extreme temperatures that are forecasted this week. The area is under an Excessive Heat Warning advising that people stay indoors, especially during the hottest times of the day. The safety and health of our visitors is of the utmost importance to Maricopa County Parks and Recreation and we hope that you will attend one of our programs in the near future.
Join Ranger Eric to look for and learn about the nocturnal animals on this guided hike. Wildlife we may see includes scorpions, spiders, insects, owls, nightjars, reptiles, and mammals! We will hike 1-2 miles roundtrip depending on heat and participant interest on the Slate and Flume Trails. The hike will be on easy, but occasionally rocky or uneven terrain. Please bring your own flashlight or headlamp, carry your own ample water and electrolytes, and wear sturdy footwear. You might consider bringing a blacklight if you have one, but the ranger has one to point out scorpions with. The hike may be shortened if extreme heat is forecasted. Restrooms are located at the trailhead.
MEETING LOCATION: Slate Trailhead (see map here: https://www.maricopacountyparks.net/assets/1/6/cave-creek-8x111.pdf).
