Ranger Nikki will lead you on an evening walk to seek out scorpions, bats, owls, tarantulas and other nocturnal critters. The route is an out-and-back walk on Rock Peak Wash Trail, which is deep sandy terrain. The total distance is approximately 2 miles. Bring your blacklight and a regular flashlight. No pets, please. Wear closed-toe shoes and bring plenty of water. There are no restrooms or water fountains at the Rock Peak Wash Trailhead so please stop at the Nature Center on Phillips Road on your way to use those facilities. The distance from the main entry nature center and Rock Peak Wash Trailhead is approximately a 5-mile/10-minute drive. Please bring $7 exact cash for the self-pay station or your annual pass to display on your vehicle.
Please note: Summer programs may be canceled on short notice due to severe weather, including extreme heat events. The Maricopa County Parks website is the best resource for verifying the program’s current status, so please check the program listing prior to departing for your scheduled program.
