Enjoy a roughly 3-mile hike on the scenic Ford Canyon trail. Along the way, we’ll talk about the main reasons why the Sonoran Desert is the most biodiverse desert in North America (if not the world). We’ll look at some desert plants and learn about the adaptations they’ve made to survive here. And, of course, all the while we’ll be on the lookout for wildlife like mule deer, javelina, squirrels, rabbits, various species of birds and perhaps a reptile or two. Trail is rated easy-moderate, with some loose rock, uneven terrain and elevation change. Please wear sturdy closed-toe shoes and bring plenty of water. Hats and sunscreen are also highly recommended. Restrooms are available near the trailhead. No pets, please.
For those participating in the 100 Miles in 100 Days Challenge (Nov. 1-Feb. 8), this hike is a great way to work towards your goal! For more information about the challenge, visit https://www.maricopacountyparks.net/things-to-do/activity/100-miles-in-100-days-challenge/.
