Discovery Station: Be a Citizen Scientist!

Friday, April 11, 2025
02:00 PM - 04:00 PM
Lake Pleasant Regional Park
41835 N. Castle Hot Springs Rd.
Morristown, AZ 85342

Learn about free smartphone apps that can help you identify plants, animals, and more, while helping contribute to science! Click on program title for more details.

Stop by to learn from Ranger Eric about the free iNaturalist and Seek apps you can use to identify any living organism on the planet with your smartphone, while also increasing our knowledge of where they live. Seek is the basic version for identifying organisms, but iNaturalist takes it a step farther by allowing you to share your photographed sightings to a global citizen science database to help scientists and conservationists learn more about biodiversity of our world. If interested in learning how to use Seek or iNaturalist, please download one of them before the program (both are free and available for iOS and Android smartphones) and register an account with the app, as cell service can be spotty in the park.

If you would like to get more practice with iNaturalist, check out the Greater Phoenix City Nature Challenge on the weekend of April 25-28! We will have events scheduled at many of the Maricopa County Parks that weekend, but you can participate across the Phoenix Metro area. More information on this 4-day event here: https://greaterphoenixcnc.com/

MEETING LOCATION: Discovery Center.

No registration required. Just stop by the Discovery Center between 2:00-4:00pm!

This event is part of Citizen Science Month, in which participating in community science, like through iNaturalist on this program with us, is a part of a global goal of collecting One Million Acts of Science to further research. You can learn more about the global effort on citizensciencemonth.org.
