Start off the morning with a 2.3-mile hike surrounded by beautiful desert mountains as you learn about the native plants and animals that call the Sonoran Desert home. Click program title for more details.

Hike with Ranger Derik and learn about the many edible and medicinal plant species that can be found at Lake Pleasant Regional Park and how they were used by the native peoples that once called this valley home. Because this is a park and we stress Leave No Trace Principles we will not actually try any of the plants during the hike. Please make sure to bring plenty of water as there is no water fountain at the trailhead. That being said bathrooms are available at the trailhead. If you forget water, there is a new gas station on West Carefree Highway 74 on the way to the park. MEETING LOCATION: Cottonwood Day Use Area Limit 20 participants. To register, please email derik.rodgers@maricopa.gov with your name, phone number and number of people attending. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please email Ranger Derik so we may contact those on the waiting list. Registration for this program will close on 8/27/24.Please note: Summer programs may be canceled on short notice due to severe weather, including extreme heat events. The Maricopa County Parks website is the best resource for verifying the program’s current status, so please check the program listing prior to departing for your scheduled program.
