Spend the morning hiking through the desert with Ranger Derik and learn about the many edible plants that can be found in your own backyard. Click program title for more details.
Participants will hike for 3 miles through rolling hills and sandy washes on the North Loop trail. The trail is rated as easy and only has a few spots that could be described as rocky. Ranger Derik will talk about the native edible plants as well as medicinal plants that are found along the trail. You will also have a chance to try a few species as conditions allow. All plants are subject to seasonal changes so we cannot determine what plants will be fruiting. The trailhead has no bathroom or water fountain so please make sure to plan ahead. MEETING LOCATION: North Loop Trailhead Limit 20 participants. To register, please email Ranger Derik at derik.rodgers@maricopa.gov with your name, phone number and number of people attending. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please email back ASAP so those on the waiting list may be contacted. Registration for this program will close on 2/15/24.
