Ranger Nikki will lead you on a hike to look for cactus, tree and shrub blooms and pollinators visiting flowers. Saguaros will be in bloom as well as ironwood, mesquites and various vegetation along the creek. The route is 3.5-4 miles using Spur Cross and Dragonfly Trails and a short portion of roadway back to the parking lot. The trails are rated moderate with terrain varying from even to uneven with medium to large rocks underfoot. If you would like to learn how to document your findings via the iNaturalist citizen science project, please download the free app at home and register with a username prior to arrival. Wear closed-toe shoes and bring snacks and plenty of water (no water available at the park). Binoculars are helpful. Make sure your phone is fully charged to take photos. Portable restrooms are available at the trailhead, approx.1/4 mile from the parking lot.
MEETING LOCATION: Main trailhead at covered picnic tables
*Please note: Entry to Spur Cross Conservation Area is $3 per person. Annual Pass or CASH are accepted, and exact change is appreciated. If the fee station past the parking lot is closed, the iron ranger self-pay station has envelopes in which to place your payment.
